Blind Low Vision NZ
Editorial photography project for Blind Low Vision NZ
They wanted heartfelt, emotive, and authentic photos that pull at their donors heartstrings.
Doing projects such as this is something I truely love to do, so if you, or anyone you know working in a not for profit or community/ charity organisation, and are doing good work, something worth recording and sharing with the world. Please get in touch and tell me more! For more info on my commercial and editorial work click here: Commercial photography for social impact.
This was such a fabulous opportunity for me. It was a real pleasure meeting this little dude, William. I was very excited when Samantha from the Blind Low Vision NZ marketing team in Auckland got in touch.
The brief was:
Blind Low Vision NZ aims to deliver heartfelt, emotive, and authentic photos that pull at our donor’s heartstrings, showing them the impact of their donations. This project will be the story of 4 year old William in our Library fundraising appeal. This will be mailed and emailed to approximately 22,000 Kiwis who support the Blind Low Vision NZ.
William is was born with congenital glaucoma, so he was blind at birth. William, his family, and his specialist Nicole have been preparing for William to go to school and a part of this is William using our talking books service to get William up to speed with other children his age. William can’t see more than a few metres in front of him even with glasses on. But he’s also short-sighted. He wears glasses, but he still can’t see that far away. William has a cane, he's a bright child and he learnt very early on to map, so for new areas he will ask for his cane. So all his familiar areas, all his friends’ homes, the park, day-care, he doesn’t need a cane. William absolutely loves Talking Books – we want to share the difference these invaluable Blind Low Vision NZ Library services make to William in both photos and words.
