no mannequins with worried smiles on a white background here…

It’s election time in NZ! And I was delighted to be recommended by a friend (and fellow photographer), to create some campaign photo options for Paul Eagle, running in the Wellington electorate of Rongotai.

He was keen on getting something a lot more relaxed, real and un-posed - exactly up my alley. He chose a beautiful location (friend’s house) and it was an absolute pleasure hanging out. Having his boy Tama with us meant for a great opportunity to get some good action happening, and I also love dogs, so that was just a bonus.

I wanted to make sure there was human connection in the images, something which I find is lacking in a lot, not all, but a lot of other campaign photographs. I am not a fan of the white back drop, and much prefer to add context in any way possible, so that the viewer is more likely to have an emotive response to the image. Especially if you are driving at 50Kph past the billboard!

So here are some of the options we created. Which one(s) would you use if it were your campaign?
